How it works

Device

The IPUD device acts like an implantable bypass of the kidneys.

By induction of controlled hydrostatic pressure gradient protocol, extracellular systemic fluid (not ascites fluid) is drawn via the peritoneal membranes through the flat absorption chamber towards the urinary system. Congestion is prevented with continuous, 24/7, slow drainage of excess isotonic systemic fluids, completely independent of the kidney and not limited to local cavity.

Procedure

The absorption chamber is delivered percutaneously, via single access, a simple procedure, with no need for anchoring or additional tooling. The delivery system enables a quick deployment of the device within the peritoneal cavity.

Mechanism of Action

Removal of systemic extracellular fluid is enabled by relying on two known principles

the Peritoneal Dialysis, from which permeability properties of the peritoneal membranes and the ability to access systemic extracellular fluid are known

Peripheral Ultrafiltration, which has established application of vacuum instead of chemical pressure gradient

Osmotic

Peritoneal Dialysis

osmotic
Oncotic pressure gradient draws systemic fluid until reaching osmotic balance

Hydrostatic

Implantable Peritoneal Ultrafiltration

hydrostatic
Hydrostatic pressure gradient draws systemic isotonic extracellular fluid
